Castors for Hard Floors - All Castor types can be used on hard floors. Hard Material Such as Nylon or Polypropylene are hard wearing, however for delicate floors (i.e. wooden floors) or where low noise is required, soft Castors such as Rubber, Polyurethane or PVC should be considered
Castors for Soft Floors - It is most common to use hard castors such as Nylon or Polypropylene. They provide a lower roll resistance on soft floor.
Large Caster Wheels increase manoeuvrability (The provide a low roll resistance making it easier to move the equipment
Large Caster Wheels allow easier movement on uneven floor (for example warehouse floor or outdoors), or where you may need to move over small steps/cerbs etc
Weight of Equipment
The Castors on our website have a maxiumum load rating. This is the maximum weight & force that you can apply to each wheel and should not be exceeded.
If you equipment is being used on uneven floors it is possible that whilst manoeuvring the equipment one of the wheel may loose contact with the floor, and hence the weight of the equipment will be distrubuted over less wheel (for example, a 4 wheel trolley weighing 100Kg would have 25Kg per wheel, however if one of the wheels is not in content with the ground the weight per wheel would be 33.3Kg). This should be considered when selecting a Castor.
You could consider whether the equipment will see any shock forces (for example an item being dropped onto a trolley). This shock force should be considered when choosing a caster wheel.

Caster Wheels are manufactured from a vast range of different tread materials. It is important to select a material which is suitable for the environment which it is expected to operate in. Considerations may include Cleaning Materials, Chemicals & Solvents, Temperature, Ozone & Sunlight, Humidity and Water, all of which can attack certain materials.
External Factors should also be considered such as what the equipment is being used for. For example some rubbers can "leach" additives as they age and would not be suitable for a food production environment. Also certain medical applications can be particularly sensitive, such as MRI Scanners which cannot have magnetic materials close by. In this instance Bulldog offer a range of Non-Magnetic castors suitable for MRI Scanners.
